Biomass and Leaf Area Dynamics of Modular Populations in Gordonia acuminata

Abstract: The modular population dynamics and leaf area dynamics in Gordonia acuminata in Mt. Jinyun were studied. They were both expressed by the logistic equation. But there were particularities at different level: (1) The dynamics of leaf biomass and leaf area were similar. They could be well fitted by power function and logistic equation. Their figures looked like flatted and upside clown S-shape. (2) Biomass of roots, leaves, branches and buds began to increase again after a cease period of growth. Perhaps they were a spirally logistic increase, differing from traditional logistic curve. (3) In the process of the stand development, the innate increasing rates of branch and stem were very high, the ratio of branch and stem biomass to the tota biomass continued to go up ,accounting for 0%~11% and 19~66% respectively. The corresponding ratio for roots was constantly around 22% ,while innate increasing rate of the leaves and buds was smaller and the ratio for them continuously declined :from 61 to 1% and from 0.2% to 0. 003%, respectively. Furthermore, the decrease in leaves and the increase in branches and stems showed dual linear correlation (p<0.01). It shows that chance to receive biomass differ among different modulers. Branches have priority over stems in this aspect.
