Chinese Journal of Plant Ecology was founded in 1955, representing the first academic journal in the ecological area in China. The journal is hosted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and co-sponsored by the Institute of Botany of the CAS and the Botanical Society of China. This journal appeared as Acta Phytoecologica Et Geobotanica Sinica in 1963. Since 1994, it was renamed into Chinese Journal of Plant Ecology. Now it is a bimonthly journal, and each issue with 174 pages.

　　Chinese Journal of Plant Ecology aims to reflect the authoritative and scientific ideas in the development in the study of plant ecology and showcases research results in the fast growing and cutting-edge areas. The journal mainly publishes original papers on physiology ecology, plant population ecology, community ecology, ecosystem ecology, landscape ecology, chemical ecology, pollution ecology, restoration ecology, conservation ecology, agricultural ecology, forest ecology, grassland ecology as well as theoretical ecology. Besides, review articles or new ideas on the explorative research or development are also welcomed. We also have a discussion forum especially for publishing discussions and views on contentious issues, hoping to advance the development of the science of phytoecology.

　　Chinese Journal of Plant Ecologyhas earned a growing reputation with improved impact of factor, from 0.0417 in 1991 to 1.483 in 2003. It has been ranked among the top three biological journals in China for 3 consequent years. The journal is now included in many authoritative index systems of foreign and domestic countries. E.g. CA, BIOSIS, AJ, Ecological Abstracts, Advances in Ecology, AGRIS International, Chinese Science Citation Index, Chinese Science and Technology Papers and Citation Index, Chinese Science Abstract, etc.

　　Chinese Journal of Plant Ecology won the first class prize for distinguished journals by the Chinese Academy Sciences in 2000. In 2001, 2002,it was selected into the one hundred best academic journals of China. It is now supported by the publishing fund of the CAS and a grant by the Chinese Sciences and Technology Association and the National Natural Science Foundation of China for outstanding basic natural science academic journal.

Currently, Chinese Journal of Plant Ecology has an international editorial board, which includes 8 foreign members.
