Abstract: Dalaoling National Forest Park and the surrounding region, locating at the head of the Three Gorges Reservoir, is covered by natural secondary mountain forest in great area. The natural environment, flora and vegetation are typical to the Reservoir region. According to the analysis of plot record of 155 plant communities surveyed at Dalaoling region, 61 rare of endangered species were found and their ecological and geographical attributes were described in this paper. An analysis was done to the frequency and the total species times of presence of the rare species at different altitude sectors, and the altitude range of distribution of 26 important species( the first and second group of key protecting species by China)at the region. After that, the topography of the plots was quantified between the existence of rare species and the topographical characteristics of the plots. It was suggested that the rare and endangered plant species at Dalaoling region mainly distributed between 1000m and 1800m above sea level, that is the range of subtropical mountain evergreen and deciduous broad-leaved mixed forest zone there. These species chiefly concentrated in the concave topography such as valley and depression, possibly owing to their special request for microclimate and soil water. At last; the mechanics that these species exist here were discussed and advice was put forward to the strategy of conservation of the rare and endangered plant species at the Three Gorges region.
