Le Dong County is situated in the southwestern part of Hainan Island, lying in 18˚58′NL and 109˚24′EL. The topography of the county is a basin, including mountains, hills, terraces and plains. Generally speaking, the temperature is high all the year around and the humidity with distinct alternation of dry and wet seasons. On the plain the climate is characterized by an annual rainfall with 1000-1600mm. and high evaporation being rather dry and hot, while on the mountainous area the climate is rather humid and mild.The vegetation of this region consists of several types, namely the tropical evergreen monsoon forest, the tropical deciduous monsoon forest, the montane rain forest, the valley rain forest, the dwarf mountainous woodland, the shrubby grassland, the littoral thorn thicket. Being on the compositional pattern of different vegetation types and their characteristics of geographical distribution, and the uniformity in the improvement and utilization of vegetation, the vegetation regionalization of the county may be divided into four districts and nine sub-districts.
